Samit Patel is the star of a video that might feature the funniest ever run out in First-Class history! Samit, who plays for Nottinghamshire, has often been ridiculed for his less-than-athletic build. However, he enjoys a First-Class batting average of 37.41 along with a bowling average of 40.27, neither of which are particularly impressive but decent nonetheless. Samit had a very brief career as an England cricketer in both Tests and ODIs, but he was unable to hammer down a spot in the line-up and was dropped after playing five Tests and 36 ODIs. He also featured in 18 T20Is and was famously hit by Rahul Dravid for three sixes in one of those games, which also happened to be Dravid’s T20I debut (and only match). Samit was Man of the Match in England’s 2013 40-over domestic tournament which the Notts won by beating Glamorgan. In the above video, Samit slashes a ball to point in a rather attractive fashion before taking off for a single that was surely on. Sadly for him, he slips while taking the run, falling comically on his back almost as if he were asleep. The wicketkeeper collects the catch cleanly and whips off the bails in a professional manner, almost oblivious to the fact that the batsman is, in fact, lying on his buttocks in the middle of the pitch. Samit walks off dejectedly, but after having produced one of the most memorably hilarious moments on a cricket field. Samit’s non-striking partner sees what happens and reacts in disappointment. The video has received nearly 5,00,000 hits on YouTube. READ: An XI of Asian cricketers let down by england
