Steven Smith took full responsibility of the ball-tampering incident last Saturday at Cape Town during the third Test between Australia and South Africa. Smith, along with his deputy David Warner, has been banned for a year by Cricket Australia, also earning a captaincy ban of two years.
“I take full responsibility, I made a serious error of judgement and I understand the consequences. It was a failure of leadership, my leadership” he said before breaking down in tears. “I’m sorry. I’m absolutely devastated.”

Smith, alongside Warner have been barred from playing the IPL as well.
