Secuderabad: Rajat Bhatia bagged five-wicket haul and then hit an unbeaten 68 to help Rajasthan steal a one-wicket win against Assam in a thrilling Group A Vijay Hazare cricket match on Friday. Chasing 149 for a win in a low-scoring encounter at the Railways Recreation Club Ground, Rajasthan were reduced to 81 for seven and then 139 for nine but Bhatia held his nerve in a tense finish to hand Assam their second loss in two days. Bhatia mixed the right dose of caution and aggression in his 82-ball stay, which was laced with 6 fours and a six. Krishna Das, Arup Das, Pritam Das and Pallav Kumar Das picked up two wicket each. Rajasthan would be happy to have gotten off the mark in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2015-16. Services came up with a fine bowling and fielding display to register a comfortable 63-run win over Rajasthan in their opening Group A match of the Vijay Hazare One-Day cricket tournament on Thursday. Invited to bat, Services rode on half-centuries from opener Nakul Verma (68) and middle-order batsman Yashpal Singh (75 not out) to post a not-so-impressive 230 for seven in their 50 overs. Besides Nakul and Yashpal, Suraj Yadav hit a quick-fire 30-ball 44 towards the rear end to take Services to a decent total. Upcoming pace sensation Nathu Singh (4 for 42) impressed with a four-wicket haul for Rajasthan.
Brief Scores:
