This edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy has been special and also different from the other ones as on the opening day of the tournament. We have seen 22 players registered centuries. This is the highest number in tournament history. However, on Saturday there are 18 centuries were smashed by batsmen.
However, we have witnessed a lot of craziest moments like there are 92 centuries that have been scored in the tournament. There is one more unbreakable record that has been made in the tournament as the Bihar team set a new record in the Vijay Hazare Trophy by scoring 574 runs. On the other hand, the Karnataka team chased the highest total of 413 against Jharkhand and became the first team to chase the highest target in the history of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Skills upgrade or batting-friendly pitches ?
However, there is one doubt in everyone’s mind is whether the total of 400 runs has become common or the players have upgraded their skills and temperaments or is this a result of a batting-friendly pitch. In domestic cricket, the players are dominating but the question will they be able to continue their consistency and form for the upcoming tournaments like IPL or international matches or series ?
In the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, most of the matches are played on flat and batting-friendly pitches. As a result. We have witnessed high scores and great batting performances and little disadvantage for bowlers. For example: players like Devdutt Padikkal, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma played a remarkable innings in the tournament. Even though, Devdutt Padikkal and Hardik Pandya are in great form as Padikkal smashed 4 back-to-back centuries and Pandya had scored 34 runs in an over. On the other hand, batters like Vidarbha’s Aman Mokade and Himachal Pradesh’s Pukhraj Mann have also scored three hundreds as well.
Rise of aggressive batting
In the tournament, batsmen are seen to be more of an attacking and dominating approach instead of taking time to build the innings. That factor plays one of the most important roles. However, in the Indian Premier League (IPL), players are seen to be more into hitting all types of shots. These great batting performances from the young stars grabs viewers and cricket world’s attention towards the domestic format.
Will players be able to maintain their form in international cricket ?
However, still the main concern is whether the players be able to maintain their great form and performance for the upcoming biggest events like big tournaments or international series. Because there is a lot of difference in the flat pitches and pitches of Australia and England. In both countries there is a big factor of swing, spin, bounce and moisture, which can also trouble one of the most experienced batters.

In international cricket, the players have to face the overseas bowlers, who have the better length, pace, skills and mindset than the Indian players. There are many examples of Indian players scoring greatly in domestic cricket and getting dismissed on international soil. For ex: Suryakumar Yadav, Karun Nair and Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharshan, Ruturaj Gaikwad. All these fail to give big innings on the international pitches.
