Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddharamaiah on Monday felicitated cricketer Vinay Kumar with the Karnataka Rajyotsava award, after the medium pacer missed the award ceremony on November 1 last year. The award includes a medal, a shawl, an amount of Rs. 100, 000 and a citation. To mark the 60th year of the formation of Karnataka, the government had last year decided to confer Kannada Rajyotsava award on 60 personalities representing various fields. Those conferred with the award include Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman A.S. Kiran Kumar, writer Aryambha Pattabhi, yesteryear actor ‘Sowcar’ Janaki’, former judge A.J. Vinay was also awarded recently with Madhavrao Scindia Award- highest wicket-taker in Ranji Trophy 2014-15 alongside Mumbai’s Shardul Thakur. Last year he was awarded CEAT Domestic Cricketer of the Year with other cricketers like Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Kumar Sangakkara, Hashim Amla, Kieron Pollard, Deepak Hooda, Dwayne Bravo and Rangana Herath. Vinay plays for Mumbai Indians in Indian Premier League (IPL) and will be soon be able to see him in action once again in IPL 9 from April 9. Vinay started playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in the inaugural season of IPL and was later moved to Mumbai Indians. Vinay has been a prominent player in Ranji Trophy for his exceptional bowling spells and highest number of wickets taken as he represents Karnataka. Although this year they faced tough luck as they did not reach the semi-finals stage, though they fought back equally until the qualifying stages. In the 2013-14 Ranji Trophy as well, Vinay excelled for his bowling spells taking maximum wickets once again.
