MS Dhoni to lead India in their upcoming tour of Zimbabwe, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s 16-man squad on Monday. Dhoni is the only senior player in the Zimbabwe tour with the likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli being rested. India and Zimbabwe are set to play three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), starting next month. The matches will be played at the Harare Sports Club. The six matches will be played over 12 days, starting with the first ODI on June 11 and the last T20 on June 22. According to reports earlier, there was a Test supposed to be played but was replaced by a third T20I after Zimbabwe Cricket requested to do so. KL Rahul, who has been impressive with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the current ninth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) finally gets picked in the squad for limited-overs cricket. Rahul, who made his international debut in India’s tour of Australia, has five Tests to his name so far. A surprise selection came in the form of Vidarbha’s opening batsman Faiz Fazal, who has played 79 First-Class matches and averages 34.52 in List A. Meanwhile, even the likes of Karun Nair, Ambati Rayudu and Yuzvendra Chahal have been awarded a Indian call for their consistent performance of late and especially in IPL 2016 for their respective franchises. India has been touring Zimbabwe in the beginning of their new season just after the end of Indian Premier League for some time now. In 2015, Rahane-led India defeated the hosts 3-0 in the ODIs before tying the T20Is 1-1 after Zimbabwe finally registered a win in that series by winning the second T20I. India always sends a second-tier team for the Zimbabwe tour with almost all the senior players of the side being rested.
