Virat Kohli, who is in smashing touch in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 helping his team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) reach the final, has got another admirer in the form of Shane Warne. According to Warne, former Australian spinner considered to be one of the greatest of all time, Kohli is a slightly better batsman than South Africa’s AB de Villiers. Warne believes de Villiers can play shots all round the ground but he has not played those special innings which Kohli has. Warne added Kohli’s resolve and ability to absorb pressure in close games makes him a better batter than de Villiers. Oneindia.com quoted Warne saying, “De Villiers is a 360 degree player. He plays reverses, the lapses and all those sort of things but hasn’t really played too many of ‘those’ innings Virat Kohli has played. De Villiers outsmarts himself too much and tries too many unbelievable shots.” Full Cricket Scorecard: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs TBC, Final match, IPL 2016

He lauded Kohli’s 113-run knock against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), “Even the innings the other day (113 against KXIP), there wasn’t one reverse shot. There was nothing funky, there were just cricket shots. It needs an amazing amount of skill to do that consistently in T20 cricket.” READ: Virat Kohli ahead of Lionel Messi, Novak Djokovic as most marketable player

“Kohli’s determination and finding a way during crunch games just puts him ahead of de Villiers. If you look at their records, Virat Kohli has done it, he has an average of more than 100 when chasing score, that’s just insane to see that sort of numbers. There is not much between them. But I think Virat Kohli just pips him.”
