Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara score tons, India dismissed for 455 vs England on Day 2 of 2nd Test

Indian skipper Virat Kohli, and top-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara scored twin blistering centuries, as India were shot out for 455, on Day 2 of the second of the five-Test series vs England, at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Friday. Kohli remained the top scorer with 167, while Pujara scored 119. Also tail-ender Ravichandran Ashwin played a decent innings of 58. As for England, it was bowlers in the form of James Anderson, and Moeen Ali, claiming three wickets each, while Adil Rashid claimed a couple, as england get set to face a stern Indian bowling Test again. Earlier on Day 1, Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss, and elected to bat first, as he moved in witha couple of changes in the playing XI, with Jayant Yadav coming in for Amit Mishra, while KL Rahul replaced Gautam Gambhir. The Indians started their innings on a sad note, with opener Rahul getting dismissed for an unfortunate duck to Stuart Broad, after being caught by Ben Stokes. Just 16 runs later, it was his fellow opener Murali Vijay, who fell for just 20 to James Anderson, after being caught by Stokes again.

However, it was followed by a mammoth 226-run stand between Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara, as both the batsmen contributed decently, with Pujara contributing 117, and Kohli contributing 107 in the stand. India went on lunch on Day 1 at the score of 92 for the loss of two wickets. Following the lunch break, both the batsmen scored their respective half-centuries, as India were 210 for the loss of two at the tea break. It was in this meantime, when Pujara scored his 10th ton in Test cricket, including 11 boundaries and a couple of sixes, while Kohli too scored his 14th Test ton, including 12 boundaries. The post-tea session also saw Kohli scoring his 150, including 15 boundaries, while it was at the score of 248, when the third wickets fell for India in the form of Pujara, who was dismissed for 119 by Anderson, after being caught behind by Jonny Bairstow.

It was followed by another healthy 680run stand for the fourth wicket between Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane, prior to Kohli’s 150, before Rahane fell for 23 to Anderson, after being caught behind by Bairtsow again, as out came the night watchman in the form of Ravichandran Ashwin, and India ended Day 1 at the score of 317 for the loss of four wickets. The Day 2 started on a positive note, with both the batsmen getting off to a steady start, before Kohli, who seemed to be going good fell for 167 to Moeen Ali, after being caught by Stokes. Just 12 runs later, it was Wirddhiman Saha, who fell for just three to Ali, after being trapped leg-before, while the DRS too stayed in favour of the umpire. the same over also saw the dismissal of Ravindra Jadeja for an unfortunate duck, in a similar fashion, as Jadeja opted against a review, which clearly showed that the ball was missing the stumps, as India went on to lunch at the score of 415 for the loss of seven wickets.

Meanwhile, it was Ashwin, who scored his eighth Test half-century, including five boundaries, before he fell for 58 to Stokes, after being caught behind by Bairstow, as the score read 427 for the loss of eight. 33 runs later, it was Jayant, who fell for 35 to Adil Rashid, while the innings ended at the score of 455, and the last man to be dismissed was Umesh Yadav, who fell for 13 to Rashid, after being caught by Ali.
