Virat Kohli has extend his congratulations to Roger Federer and has bestowed upon the latter the ‘legend’ title after he clinched his 300th Grand Slam title. It is a commonly known fact that Kohli though fully committed to his cricket, harbours an active interest in other sports like football and tennis. He even owns a football team in the Indian Super League (ISL) called FC Goa. He also follows tennis and seems to be a long term supporter of Federer. Federer at age of 34 is still good enough to beat the youngsters in the fray and has overcome a lean form to return to his best again. ALSO READ: Virat Kohli to James Faulkner: Are you fast asleep?

Federer achieved the feat of 300 Grand Slam victims when he beat Grigor Dimitrov in the Australian Open. Federer won the match in four sets with the scoreline reading: 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Federer completed his victory in two hours and 40 minutes at the Rod Laver Arena. Federer is pitted against Belgium’s David Goffin in the next round. “It was a difficult position for me after losing the second set and Grigor was playing well. I thought I was struggling a little bit,” Federer said in the presser after the match. “I didn’t feel it was really happening out there and it was an important start for me to the third set,” he added.

“Thankfully I got the early break and I was able to stay in the lead and everything started to come back, the serve, my footwork. It was complicated, but those matches are even nicer to win, I must say.”

Kohli duly congratulated Federer tweeting, “Congratulations @rogerfederer on creating history again. Winning 300 Grand Slam Matches. What a Legend. #RF300,” Kohli’s tweet read. Federer has a big fan following in India in part because of his camaraderie with Indian cricketers including Sachin Tendulkar.

Kohli is also in Australia playing in the five-match One-Day International (ODI) series against the hosts, with India currently trailing 4-0 despite his repeatedly good scores in the series. Kohli will be a little relaxed having watched Federer win and will try to reverse India’s fortunes to take a consolatory win.
