Virat Kohli’s woes in England continue as he still cannot get his timing right and tried to step down and hit out to roar back to form. It fell flat on the Indian lynchpin’s face. Jimmy Anderson and Chris Woakes continued bowling in the right areas and just when the batsmen were looking set and just when we were thinking India had evaded the storm, Shikhar Dhawan lost his nerve and had no feet movement and ended up nicking the ball to Jos Buttler. This bought Virat Kohli to the crease. Virat Kohli danced down the wicket off the third ball and he couldn’t clear mid-off India was in deep trouble.

Earlier, Anderson started proceedings for England and he was right on the money for the home side. Rohit prodded and fished outside the off stump and was flirting with danger. It was outstanding stuff from the pacer spearhead and it was a maiden. Chris Woakes, chosen ahead of pacers Steven Finn and Harry Gurney was also impeccable with his length and it was two maiden overs back-to-back. Rohit finally broke the shackles with a lovely straight drive of the last ball of the first over and India were finally on the move. Jos Buttler were caught in two minds and he missed a run out opportunity and Rohit was safe. Dhawan on the other hand got his boundary with a fine boundary on the off-side off Woakes.

Alastair Cook won the toss and elected to field first in seaming conditions in Cardiff after the first ODI was washed out due to rain without a ball being bowled Bristol. India have gone in both spinners — Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. England on the other hand have picked both all-rounders, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler. Surprisingly, England’s Test heroes, Moeen Ali and Gary Ballance have been left out of the team and Mohit Sharma was chosen ahead of pacer Umesh Yadav in the Indian  XI.
