Reigning supreme across formats, there are little doubts as to why Virat Kohli is being hailed as King Kohli these days. Having made a successful start to his captaincy stint with India s 2-1 victory over England in the recently-concluded three-match ODI series, Kohli has given a glimpse of what is in the store for the time to come. Kohli is at the top of his game, sitting pretty at No. 2 in ICC Test as well as ODI Rankings for batsmen and at No. 1 in T20Is. No wonder the 28-year-old is way ahead of his peers. However, there is still a great deal of shyness in the Indian captain, who prefers being the joker in the dressing room.

I prefer being the joker in the change room, Kohli told bcci.tv in an interview, post India s series win over England in ODIs. Kohli slammed a century in the first ODI to provide India the launch pad in the first ODI at Pune. Meanwhile in the third game at Kolkata, he braved swing and bounce during the chase in the evening to score a brisk half-century. However, as captain, he has picked out Kedar Jadhav s rapid century in the first ODI as an innings that would stay with him for long as one of the standout performances from the Indian side. When asked what will stay will him for long, the first aspect he added was: Kedar s batting performance in the 1st ODI. . Kohli had added 200 runs with Jadhav for the fifth wicket during India s chase of 351. Playing at his home ground in Pune, Kedar slammed 76-ball 120, studded with 12 boundaries and 4 sixes to guide India to a 3-wicket win.

Kohli also picked out Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni s partnership of 256 for the fourth wicket in the first innings as one of the special moments. He said, Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) and MS (Dhoni), the way they batted in the second game and the way Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) bowled in the death overs. He further added, The way Hardik and Kedar strung in the partnership (3rd ODI). I think it is commendable for two guys after having lost all the experienced guys in the team to stitch a partnership like this on a difficult wicket is something outstanding for me. These three events stand out for me, because this is something that we always wish as a team to execute.

However, perhaps the most special moment from Kohli came in the first ODI when he produced an outrageous stroke off Chris Woakes to lift the ball over deep mid-wicket for a six. Talking about that shot, Kohli said, I think it was the momentum that I was in and the motivation to win a game for my country, understanding how many runs we need from the number of balls left and reacting to the ball coming in that area. I have never played a shot like that before, but to have executed that, I surprised myself as well. It is one of those shots that will remain as a memory in your career and you can sit back and say that this is one of those special things that happened to me. I m grateful to have executed it.
