India has been on a winning spree. Although India have been playing non-stop cricket for over a year now, their performance has been phenomenal across formats, especially in Tests. Virat Kohli has been hailed for his leadership skills, which has immensely allowed India to be on the pinnacle position of the ICC Test Rankings for over a year now. However, Ravi Shastri feels that despite his recent success, Kohli is still a work in progress and needs to mature a lot, which he will in the near future. Apart from expressing his confidence over Kohli, Shastri also backed Cheteshwar Pujara to be among the top bracket of BCCI’s central contract. On MS Dhoni and Kohli

“I have never seen Dhoni lose his cool. If he has, it must have been for 10 seconds. Kohli is still work in progress but he will certainly mature. I hear a lot of stories about their (strained) relationship but all those are not true. I have seen how much mutual respect the two have for each other,” said Shastri during a panel discussion on journalist Rajdeep Sardesai’s new book ‘Democracy’s XI’ at New Delhi.

On Pujara’s central contract

“It is very important that someone like Cheteshwar Pujara is kept in the top bracket of central contract.”

Kohli and Dhoni had recently met CoA to discuss annual contracts. Team India cricketers are expected to receive a pay hike. Though Pujara plays only the Test format, he too is likely to gain from this.
