The first Test between India and England at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot ended in a draw. Apart from rain affected games, this is the first Test that ended in draw since 2012 at Nagpur. That Test was also played between India and England. After that, only one Test ended in draw and that too because of rain and that was between India and South Africa at Bengaluru in 2015. Also, this is the first instance of starting a series with a draw Test since 2010. Batting first, England posted a mammoth total of 537 and in reply, India failed to take the lead as they were bowled out for 488. India gave away the crucial lead of 49 runs to England. In the second half of the Test, England scored 260 with the help of Cook’s another ton and Hameed’s debut fifty. India were given the target of 310 runs in 52.3 overs, which they failed to chase but managed to saved the match by ending it in draw. England leggie Adil Rashid did an excellent job in the final innings by scalping three important wickets of Indian batsman and at one stage, it looked India may collapse if they go for win.
