On June 6, a life-sized wax effigy of Virat Kohli (complete with jersey #18 in Indian Blues) had gone on on display at Madame Tussauds in Delhi. Kohli‘s statue is placed opposite of Kapil Dev‘s effigy. However, given the cricket-crazy nation that India is, news of Kohli’s statue being on display led to an obvious accumulation of fans in no time. While some preferred to maintain a distance, others went straight for selfies. Some of them went too close, and a part of the ear of the statue had to be clipped off. The statue had to be repaired the same day it went on display.

Madame Tussauds made an official announcement regarding this on Friday. ”As soon as our staff were alerted, the figure was removed, swiftly repaired and immediately displayed back into his cricket setting to be enjoyed by his adoring fans,” the museum said in a statement.

Apart from Kapil and Kohli, the museum, located at Connaught Place, also includes statues of sports superstars like Sachin Tendulkar, Lionel Messi, and David Beckham. Also featured are effigies of Mahatma Gandhi, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and actors like Marilyn Monroe, Angelina Jolie, Tom Cruise, and Leonardo Dicaprio, and closer home, Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Katrina Kaif.
