Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan were dismissed in quick succession to leave India struggling for breath at 60 for 5 against Sri Lanka with half their side back in the pavilion. Kohli was dismissed by Tharindu Kaushal, getting a faint inside edge onto his pad while trying to flick. He was caught brilliantly at short leg by Kaushal Silva for just 3 to reduce India to 45 for 4. Dhawan was the next man to go, getting caught and bowled off a leading edge while trying to flick the ball away off his pads off Tharindu. India were in complete disarray against the Sri Lankan spinners. Rangana Herath took the first three wickets to fall as well. Wriddhiman Saha and Ajinkya Rahane are the last recognised batting pair for India. Earlier, India began Day Four with a lot confidence given that they needed only 153 more runs with nine wickets in hand. However, Herath soon had India on the back foot when he captured the wickets of Ishant Sharma and Rohit Sharma. This after having got rid of KL Rahul on the evening of Day Three. Till the time that Dinesh Chandimal played a terrific, counterattacking knock on Day Three, Sri Lanka looked largely pedestrian in the Test. Ravichandran Ashwin captured 10 wickets in the match to firmly put India on top, but the Sri Lankan spinners soon turned the match on its head.
