Virat Kohli Takes No. 1 Spot In Elite WTC List Of Indian Batters

On the opening day of the first Test match between South Africa and India in Centurion on Tuesday, star batsman Virat Kohli of India achieved yet another milestone: he highest run scorer for India in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2019–2025. The former captain of India accomplished the feat by surpassing Rohit Sharma. Kohli scored 2101 runs in 57 innings. While Rohit scored 2097 runs in 42 innings. With 1769 runs in 62 innings, Cheteshwar Pujara is ranked third on the list, behind Rohit and Virat Kohli. The next two players on the list are Rishabh Pant (1575 runs in 41 innings) and Ajinkya Rahane (1589 runs in 49 innings), respectively.

Kohli hit 38 runs from 64 balls with a strike rate of 59.38 but was unable to leave his imprint in India’s opening inning. The 35-year-old destroyed the Proteas bowling assault with five fours but was unlucky, though, as the bowler Kagiso Rabada dismissed the batter in the 30.6 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah was the lone player to fall out of the last session; after 19 balls played, he lost his patience and was dismissed by Marco Jansen.
