Since the time Virat Kohli has taken over the reins of captaincy, India have flourished across formats. India have been ruling the Test rankings since 2016. Recently, Kohli lead India to 1-0 win against Sri Lanka in the three-match Test series. India won their ninth Test series on trot and equalled the record held by England and Australia. He also equalled Ricky Ponting of most successive series win as captain.

Kohli slammed his sixth Test double-century (243) as a captain, surpassing Brian Lara s record of 5. He became the second Indian captain after Sunil Gavaskar to score a 200 and 50 in two innings of a Test. He is also now at par with Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag, having scored most career double-centuries as an Indian cricketer.

As for the rankings, he went up to No. 2 spot and is just 45 points behind Steven Smith. Kohli is already the top batsman in ODIs and T20Is. Kohli is now placed at No. 3 for most runs by a batsman in a calendar year with 2,818 runs at 68.73 behind Kumar Sangakkara (2,868) and Ricky Ponting (2,833).

Kohli can now take pride in adding another feather to his cap before the year comes to an end. The Indian skipper has topped the list of Yahoo s most searched sportsperson in the year 2017. MS Dhoni falls behind Kohli. After Dhoni the list includes (in chronological order) PV Sindhu, Gautam Gambhir, Ravi Shastri, Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur, S Sreesanth, Robin Uthappa and Irfan Pathan.

In June 2017, Kohli also made it to the Forbes list of the world s 100 highest-paid athletes, ranked at No. 89.

Last year, Dhoni and Kohli were the most searched words keywords with the latter bagging 108 million page views across the Hindi and English content.
