Hosts Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli played a sensational knock of 113, as he propelled RCB to a mammoth total of 211 for the loss of three wickets in 15 overs of a rain-curtailed tie against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), in Match 50 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Earlier, persistent and heavy rain led to a delayed start to the game, with 15 over to be played for, as KXIP skipper Murali Vijay won the toss and elected to bowl first due to the rainy conditions, while he made three changes in the form of Farhan Behardien, Kyle Abbott and KC Cariappa coming in for Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Anureet Singh. The RCB openers were off to a thunderous start in the thunderous rainy conditions, as both the batsmen started smashing the ball off the very first over, thus not allowing any bowler to settle down. The 50 runs were up for RCB in the mandatory powerplay phase of five overs. Also, Kohli brought up his half-century in 28 deliveries, including six boundaries and three sixes, along with a strike rate of 208. However, just following his half-century, a close chance of his dismissal was gone begging, as Farhan Behardien stepped on the boundary while completing the catch. Nevertheless, his half-century was followed by Chris Gayle’s one, as he brought up his feat off 26 deliveries, including four boundaries and five sixes, along with a strike rate of 228. The 100 run stand came up in 54 balls , as Gayle contributed 49, Kohli contributed 51, along with four extras.

The pair continued their lethal innings and put up 147 runs on the board, before Gayle finally fell for 73 to Akshar Patel, after being caught by David Miller, in the 11th over. It was followed by a short seven-run stand, before Ab de Villiers was dismissed for an unfortunate duck by Kyle Abbott, who bowled him up in the very next over. Meanwhile, Kohli continued his classical innings, as he brought up his fourth ton of the season, that came off 47 deliveries, including 11 boundaries and four sixes, along with a strike rate of 219.

It was at the score of 199, when Kohli fell for 113 to Sandeep Sharma, after being caught by Miller, in the 14th over. It was the pair of KL Rahul, and Shane Watson, who batted out for the final few balls, as RCB posted a mammoth total of 211 for the loss of three wickets in 15 overs.
