Sehwag (quite obviously) picked Virat Kohli ahead of Steven Smith, Joe Root, Kane Williamson and others. Sehwag said: "In my view, the best batsman currently in world cricket is one among Virat Kohli, David Warner, Joe Root, Steve Smith, Rohit Sharma, Kane Williamson, David Warner, AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla. But being an Indian, I will go with Kohli as the best across all three formats of the game. In my opinion, he is the number one batsman in world cricket at the moment."

Sehwag added that the South Africa tour will be a test for Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. He backed Rohit to cement his place in the Test side. Kohli's next assignment is against South Africa 3 Tests, 6 ODIs and 3 T20Is. Smith and Root will both be in action a day before India s first Test against South Africa, in the final Ashes Test. Smith ended 2017 as the top-scorer in Tests, while Kohli was the no. 1 ranked ODI batsman in the world.
