Virender Sehwag on Wednesday expressed his views on the ongoing issue involving Delhi college student Gurmehar Kaur, who was recently threatened on social media. Sehwag was earlier trolled on social media for his tweet on the lines of what Gurmehar had posted. But Sehwag, who has many a time got away from his humorous takes was caught in the firing line this time. Although Sehwag had clarified the wrong perception which was made out of his tweets on Tuesday, he send out tweets on Wednesday, stating that his tweet earlier was an attempt to be facetious rather than to bully anyone over their opinion. In a series of tweets, Sehwag said agreement or disagreement was not even a factor. He also said that Gurmehar has a right to express her views and anyone who threatens her with violence or rape is the lowest form of life , adding that everyone has a right to express their views without being bullied or threatened . Shashi Tharoor lashes out at Virender Sehwag; asks him not to trivialise war

Earlier, speaking to India Today, Sehwag said, My tweet wasn t intended for Gurmehar. It was plain fun but people construed the other way. A student outfit affiliated to Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), ABVP had earlier stormed into Delhi s Ramjas College, thrashing students and teacher alike. Daughter of a martyr, Gurmehar posted an online campaign against such group via an image. Sehwag, trying to be witty, followed the same pattern, which for him backfired. Sehwag replied to Gurmehar in his own witty style. He wrote on his official Twitter handle: Bat me hai Dum! #BharatJaisiJagahNahi.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday voiced regret over Sehwag s move to trivialise a serious issue like war . I am disappointed that my cricket hero Virender Sehwag chose to enter the wholly politicised debate over Gurmehar Kaur s words by saying I didn t score two triple centuries, my bat did, Tharoor wrote on Facebook.
