There is good news for Kings XI Punjab and the fans of the dashing batsman Virender Sehwag, as the franchise is all likeliness will retain the player for the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL). Sehwag retired recently from all formats of international cricket with immediate effect, and had announced that he will also not be playing in the cash-rich Twenty20 league. Surprisingly, the franchise has revealed that Sehwag will be associated with the tournament in some or the other way, if he decides not to play. Sehwag was bought in the players’ auction by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) for Rs 3.2 crore in 2014 and has been a regular player for the KXIP. Even though he has retired, the team is not intending to let go the player and the experience that he brings along. As per Mumbai Mirror, a director from KXIP revealed, “We have not decided what role he will have for the side but we want to stay associated with him. The talks are on. The mentor’s role is possibility.”

The upcoming IPL is going through changes as two major names — Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) — were banned from being a part of the tournament for the upcoming two seasons. Around 20 companies have shown interest to buy the two new temporary teams that will be auctioned soon. The names like Haldiram Sweets and Cycle Agarbatti are doing rounds among those interested.
