India’s struggling opener Virender Sehwag is in the midst of a long form slump. He failed to open account on Friday in the Group A Ranji Trophy match being played between Delhi and Odisha at Sambalpur.

Sehwag has been out of the Test team since March 2013 and it seems unlikely that he will return to the national set-up anytime soon.  To make it worse, he hasn’t been even awarded a central contract by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The last occasion on which he essayed a half-century was in the Challenger Trophy game for Delhi against India Blue in Indore. His unimpressive scores of 1 and 15 against Gujarat, 3 and 6 against Haryana in Ranji Trophy 2013-14 matches hasn’t helped him much.

On the other end of the spectrum, his opening partner Gautam Gambhir has been in good form in the Ranji Trophy this season and is still in selector’s radar. Indian captain MS Dhoni even called him as India’s third opener.
