The stakes are indeed very high for India and Sri Lanka as they lock horns at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. And the obvious curiosity is how the wicket is going to behave on the D-day.

It wasn’t a surprise to see Sri Lankan vice captain Mahela Jayawardene showing extra zeal to have a close look at the Wankhede wicket but things took an unpleasant turn when he allegedly tried to touch the wicket and get a feel of it on Thursday, Mumbai-based tabloid Mid-Day reported.

The Wankhede Stadium curator Sudhir Naik, a former India cricketer, stopped him from doing so which led to an altercation.

Naik apparently lost his cool when Jayawardene questioned his credentials. A fuming Naik told Jayawardene about his playings days for the country. The situation was brought under control when ICC General Manager Dave Richardson intervened and explained the rules to the Sri Lankan team.
