Karachi: Wasim Akram was unhurt in a shooting incident on August 5. Even after this he is undaunted and wishes to continue with the bowling camp in Karachi in which he is training budding youngsters who want to become fast bowlers. This shows his grit even after he is going through difficult circumstances. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has joined hands with Akram (for the training camp), who is widely considered one of the greatest pace bowlers in ODIs of all times. In his career Akram had picked 414 and 502 wickets in Tests and ODIs respectively. His endeavour to help the young talented Pakistani cricketers is being extensively lauded by the Pakistan media and the public in general. According to Dawn, the camp will continue for two weeks from August 1 till August 13. The backdrop to the shooting incident is that when Akram was going to the National Stadium a car smashed into his vehicle. An altercation took place between him and the driver who had deliberately crashed his car in Akram’s vehicle. The driver then fired a few bullets on Akram’s car; and one of the bullet’s punctured the tyre of the legendary fast bowler’s car. A PCB spokesman said, “Wasim Akram is in trauma but all right. He is staying in Karachi and will continue supervising the camp for fast bowlers at the National Stadium. What happened with him yesterday was tragic, but he is determined to complete the training camp.” Munir Ahmed Shaikh who is Deputy Inspector General of Police in Karachi east confirmed the incident. The fast bowler said before the police, “When I took a turn on Habib Rehmatullah Road from Sharah-e-Faisal at about 3:45pm, a car carrying three people tried to block my way and hit my vehicle from behind and ran away.
