Former Pakistan captain and one of the most fearsome bowlers the cricket world has ever witnessed, Wasim Akram has turned 50 on Friday, and the cricket fraternity celebrated the occasion. Akram remains one of the greatest cricketers the world has ever seen, whose impact on the cricket fraternity has been huge. Akram played 104 Tests and a record 356 ODIs for Pakistan. With 414 wickets in 104 Tests, Akram ended his career as the highest wicket-taker for Pakistan in their cricket history, and several years after his retirement from international cricket, his record remains intact. In 356 ODIs — second highest for any Pakistani cricketer — Akram took a record 502 wickets which again is the highest.

Post retirement Akram has successfully taken himself to make a career in cricket commentary, and he has also kept himself busy with a few coaching assignments. Whether Akram turns into a bright coach or not can be assed with his association with the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who have won the tournament twice with Akram as their bowling coach. With the bat, he was equally lethal. He scored 3 centuries in Test cricket, with 257 being his highest individual score. In ODI cricket, Akram never got a chance to score a century, but he does have 6 half-centuries for Pakistan.
