Bangladesh created history when they beat Australia by 20 runs in the first of the two-Test series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka on Wednesday. Shakib Al Hasan’s 10-wicket haul, along with Tamim Iqbal’s 71 and 78, some incisive spin bowling from Taijul Islam and inspired captaincy from Mushfiqur Rahim were enough to send Australia to back foot. Following the win, the Bangladesh players took it to their dressing-room where they celebrated their first ever Test win over Australia in a unique fashion as the players banged a workout chair with their bats as they sang Amra korbo joy (We shall overcome). In other news, Bangladesh have named an unchanged squad for next week’s series decider against Australia at Chittagong. Bangladesh are hoping to seal the series when they square off against Australia in the second and final Test starting at Chittagong on September 4. Australia, touring Bangladesh for the first time in more than a decade, are currently ranked fourth to Bangladesh’s ninth in ICC Test rankings, as reported by AFP.
