Watch Evin Lewis smash 5-sixes in an over from Stuart Binny
August 27, 2016, is the date, which Indian all-rounder Stuart Binny will find difficult to get over with. The memory of this game will undoubtedly haunt him for long time and Evin Lewis will be the reason behind this worst nightmare.
It was the occasion of first T20I match between India and West Indies at Lauderhill, Florida. India opted to field first and West Indies openers Johnson Charles and Evin Lewis started the proceedings for the side. They got the ball rolling from the outset at Lauderhill and showed no mercy whatsoever.
Binny was brought into the attack in the 11th over, a move, which was initiated to reduce the West Indian scoring rate. But it wasn’t to be as West Indies were 132 for 1 with Lewis in the top gear at 51. Lewis looked unstoppable right from the beginning and his job was done by getting the team to a flying start. All he had to do was to attack every delivery and go all guns blazing. He did exactly the same by welcoming Binny with a six in the very first ball of his over. The next ball was a bit straight and pitched up, which was again dispatched by Lewis for a maximum. Binny showed his frustration by pitching one wide outside off. He changed his side with intent to cramp the batsman for space. But it wasn’t to be as an attempted yorker turned out to be a low full-toss and it sailed over the boundary for a six.
Three sixes in three balls were achieved and the probability of making it six in an over looked attainable with shorter boundaries and the bowler being under the pump. The fourth delivery was also smashed for a six and Binny was in all sorts of trouble. Binny improvised with a shorter delivery but in vain as Lewis managed to send that too into the stands.
Lewis was delighted and there was jubilation in the West Indies camp. Yuvraj Singh’s record of six maximums in an over, which he created in 2007 against England with Stuart Broad being on the receiving end looked imminent. The final delivery of the over was about to being delivered and Binny rightly attempted yorker, but failed to pitch the ball resulting in a low full toss. Lewis swung his bat but couldn’t connect and a single was taken. A moment of relief for Binny but the damage was inflicted.
