India beat West Indies in the first Test at Antigua by comprehensive margin and one of the key players who scripted this famous win was Ravichandran Ashwin. The tall off-spinner from Tamil Nadu first scored a brilliant hundred in the first innings of the match to take India to a huge score of 566 after skipper Virat Kohli’s double hundred. Later, he turned up with the ball in the second innings of the match and took a seven-wicket haul to rip apart the West Indian batting and script a famous Indian win. As a matter of fact, this was India’s biggest win by an innings margin outside Indian subcontinent. In doing so, Ashwin became the first Indian to score a hundred and take a fifer in a Test match twice.
He also became sixth cricketer overall to achieve this feat after Ian Botham, Gary Sobers, Mushtaq Mohammad, Shakib-al-Hasan and Jacques Kallis. He had earlier become third Indian to score a hundred and take a five-wicket haul in Test cricket in 2011. The other two Indians to do so are Vinoo Mankad and Polly Umrigar.
