Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant didn’t dwell on the stumping chance he missed during a critical point in his side’s IPL 2025 opener against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in Vishakhapatnam.

Young Ashutosh Sharma proved to be too good for the LSG bowlers and his unbeaten knock of 66 runs saw DC chase down the mammoth target of 210.

During the high-pressure encounter, Pant handed the last over to spinner Shahbaz Ahmed, and on the very first ball, DC batter Mohit Sharma ambled down the crease to try and hit a big shot, however ended up completely missing the line, and the ball went on to strike on his pad.

With him being well out of his crease, Pant had a golden stumping chance. However, LSG and the IPL’s most expensive purchase ended up missing it. Pant then opted for the DRS as an appeal for LBW. The review indicated that the ball had missed the stumps, which saw DC fans take a sigh of relief.

Mohit then pushed the ball for a single so that Ashutosh could take the strike. The 26-year-old hit a massive six over Shahbaz’s head to seal the victory for DC.

“Definitely, luck plays a part in this game, and if it could have missed his (Mohit Sharma’s) pads, it was a chance for stumping. But these things happen in the game of cricket. You can’t focus on these things, but rather, you need to play better cricket,” Pant said in the post-match presentation.

Both DC and LSG will be facing-off against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next encounter in IPL. While LSG will play their match on March 27, DC will be playing their second match of the season on March 30.
