Gill scores brilliant century against Karnataka in Ranji Trophy
India batter Shubman Gill finally put his batting woes aside and played a terrific knock to help Punjab get back into the game against Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy.
In the first innings, none of the Punjab batters were able to make an impact as they got bundled out for a mere 55 runs. In reply, Karnataka went on to post a humongous total of 475 runs thanks to a fantastic double-century from Smaran Ravichandran.
Karnataka took a huge lead of 420 runs before their bowlers again started dominating over Punjab’s batters. Gill was the only batter who was able to counter-attack and keep his side in the game.
Despite wickets constantly falling on the other end, Gill stood firm and eventually went on to score a superb century with the help of 14 boundaries and 3 sixes. The opener brought up the century off 159 deliveries.
This is Gill’s 14th first-class hundred and it will surely act as a morale booster for him ahead of the Champions Trophy where he has been chosen as Rohit Sharma’s deputy.
