The Indian team led by Suryakumar Yadav comprehensively won the recently concluded 5-match T20I series against England by 4-1. The Men in Blue cruised to victory in the final T20I of the series which was held at The Wankhede stadium, defeating England by a massive 150-run margin.
Following the conclusion of the series, the Team India Fielding Awards made a comeback. Earlier, the norm was to give fielding awards after every match, however this time, an ‘Impact Fielder of the Series’ award was given.
“Phenomenal stuff. Fielding is not just about skill, it’s an attitude thing. When we are on the ground, we are not sure home many balls come our way but we can show awareness. Special mention to Varun. It’s just a start. We are giving this ‘fielder of the Series’ award for the consistency throughout the tournament,” Fielding coach T Dilip said following the fifth T20I.
Skipper Suryakumar was then called up by the fielding coach to award the medal to the winner. The former went to several different players before finally handing the medal to wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel.
Jurel only played two matches and scored a total of six runs in the series. However, despite his poor batting performance, his fielding prowess made an impression on both the captain and coach, earning him the coveted medal.
The Indian team will now be gearing up for the 3-match ODI series against England which is set to commence from February 6. The first match is set to take place at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.
