In the process of running through the Australian side during the second Test at Hobart, South African pacer Vernon Philander was forced to leave after a collision with Steven Smith. This is not the first Smith has been involved in a field collision. Back in 2011 World Cup, Smith once collided with his the then One-Day captain Ricky Ponting while attempting for a catch in a group match against Canada. The current incident of the collision between Philander and Smith was not a normal as it leads to some verbal arguments and the South African bowler had to leave the field. FULL SCORECARD: Australia vs South Africa, 2nd Test at Hobart

It happened during the second delivery of 13th over of the match, when Philander bowled an in-swinging delivery to Smith, which struck in his pads and while appealing, he collided with Smith. While appealing, Philander was moving backward and since the entire South African side was busy in appealing, Smith wanted to take a single and in that process, he crashed with the bowler. Smith, who is captain of the side, tried to jump around Philander but ended up crashing with him and the South African was soon in pain on the ground. After that, Smith completed his run and went back to see Philander but ended up having some verbal arguments with South African captain Faf du Plessis.

Du Plessis probably would have asked Smith that he could have avoided the collision and in return, the Australian captain argued back, which made the South African skipper a bit more angry or frustrated. In the heat of the moment, du Plessis went for the review and that went unsuccessful for him as Smith was not given out.

As reported by Fox Sports, while checking the review, third umpire Nigel Llong was clearly heard on the coverage saying “get off this s**t.” Till that time, Philander had already taken three wickets and Australia were already four-wicket down for 16. Philander’s over was completed by Kyle Abbott, who scalped the wicket of Callum Ferguson in the same over. After walking back, Philander got some icing on his shoulder blade and was seen rolling arm during the break.

Philander soon came back to bowl in the 26th over of the match and got his 10th five-for in Tests. With his excellent bowling, Australia were bowled out for mere 85.
