Mohsin Naqvi, the head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), remained silent when asked about the whereabouts of the Asia Cup 2025 trophy. A major controversy erupted after India defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup final in Dubai last month. Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s interior minister, reportedly declined to present the trophy to the Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, following the match. Instead, he was seen walking out of the stadium carrying both the trophy and the winner’s medals, leaving the Indian team without a formal trophy presentation.

The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) now holds ownership of the Asia Cup trophy, according to sources who spoke to NDTV last week. The manner and timing of India’s trophy handover have yet to be finalized.

During Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed’s wedding event in Karachi earlier this week, Naqvi was questioned about the Asia Cup trophy controversy.

In a video released by TOK Sports, Pakistani pacer Shaheen Afridi was seen walking with Naqvi to his car after the latter avoided answering questions from the media.

What’s future of the Asia Cup trophy?” a reporter can be heard saying in the video.

Naqvi has been accused of violating the Code of Responsibilities and Ceremonial Protocols by refusing to present the Asia Cup trophy to the Indian team. As ACC Chief, it was his fundamental duty to honor the winners. His action not only breached ceremonial norms but also caused embarrassment and raised questions about his conduct.

The issue will be raised at the next ICC meeting in November, and the BCCI has stated that it plans to escalate the matter to the ICC.

According to sources, the BCCI is also advocating for his removal from office. BCCI members claim that a series of alleged misconduct incidents and procedural violations have seriously damaged the credibility of cricket administration within the Asian Cricket Council and the ICC, which is why they are calling for his dismissal.
