Pakistan team saw a disappointing loss to arch-rival India during the ongoing 2025 edition of ICC Champions Trophy. On this loss, former Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad criticised the Men in Green, stating that “cricket has finished” in the nation.

In the highly-awaited match, Virat Kohli was the star of the show, as he led the Indian team to a six-wicket victory over Pakistan. This was the second defeat for the hosting team in this event till now. After this defeat Shehzad launched a serious attack on the Men in Green.

People say that the team doesn’t have a system where players are selected through favouritism, but they do. We’ve seen it. We know everything. We’ll tell the truth to the whole world unless we feel that you’re going towards the right direction. There was only one sport left in Pakistan. That was cricket. Today, that has also finished,” Ahmed Shehzad said while speaking at the show on Geo.tv.

The Pakistan team lost their opening match of the ongoing competition against New Zealand as well. As they were chasing a target of 321 runs, the hosts got bowled out for 260 runs at the National Stadium in Karachi.

The left-arm seamer Mohammed Amir further shared insights on the poor form of Pakistan team in the competition, requesting the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) should not be the foundation for the selection of players in the national team..

I request PCB that PSL should not be a criteria for national team selection. The top performers from domestic Cricket should be your priority and not the PSL,” Mohammed Amir said.

Following a loss to New Zealand and India, Pakistan’s chances of continuing their campaign were already slimmed out, then as the Black Caps beat Bangladesh on February 24, the Men in Green have now been knocked out from the marquee event.
