West Indies A made a slow start as Kirk Edwards smashed an unbeaten half-century and opener Kraigg Brathwaite was unbeaten on 44 at lunch against India A at Mysore in the four-day unofficial Test on Wednesday.

West Indies lost Kieran Powell early in the match when he caught leg-before wicket by Mohammad Shami. Powell’s was the only wicket to fall in the first session of day one. Ishwar Pandey bowled four maiden overs from his 12 overs, giving away only 21 runs.

It took 104 balls for Edwards to reach his fifty. Brathwaite batted carefully with Edwards, laying a foundation for the “A” team.

Earlier, India A won the toss and skipper Chesteshwar Pujara decided to field.

Brief scores:

West Indies A 99 for one (Kirk Edwards 50*, Kraigg Brathwaite 44*; Mohammad Shami 1 for 25) vs India A.
