AB de Villiers had high hopes to pose at least total of 220 on scoreboard against West Indies in the first match of Tri-Nation Series after losing wickets early on. Unless Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard decided to act spoil sport to their win and cruised through victory by 4 wickets. West Indies coach Phil Simmons hailed the performance of Narine and Pollard as well for their contributions to their first win on their comeback. Narine was recently back to the game post remodeling his bowling action while Pollard was recalled despite not featuring in domestic 50-over tournament. Simmons was impressed by Pollard in particular for his innings in a slow pitch. Simmons said, “They are the two guys who took the game away from South Africa, and it showed that they’re very important to our cricket. Narine himself, coming back from everything he’s been through, to come and perform the way he did today, you have to give him a lot of kudos for his grit and his determination, to come out of where he’s been and to come back and perform like this,” as mentioned on

Pollard’s performance was commendable for his innings in slow pitch and pushing the score to 67 that included 6 hits towards boundaries. The only person to rely on after Pollard was Carlos Brathwaite and Jason Holder. Simmons further added, “Pollard’s experience showed there. His ability to hit the ball but also his experience to guide young Bravo and so on through the end. [It] showed in [South Africa’s] innings too, de Villiers guiding Rossouw. And also, I think we came out and [showed] a little bit more grit and a little bit more determination today.”
