Jason Holder (2/2): Chris started us off tremendously. He eases the pressure in a chase like this. He imposed himself and kept them at bay. Wanted to start with a win. Been a long build-up to the tournament. Don’t want to get too far ahead. As I said in the press conference, I have no expectations, just want to make the people back home proud.

  • 6:42 PM IST

Jason Holder (1/2): Got off to a really good start. Got wickets with the new ball which is what we ask of the guys. Russell’s an impact player. Really good to see the impact we had today, followed by Oshane. Credit to the boys who stuck to the task. Russell can get the ball through, bowled some sharp balls today. He’s one who gives 100% everytime. Good to have a young quick. We know Oshane can be expensive, but he’s a wicket-taker and that’s a gamble we’re willing to take. We see him as an impact player.

  • 6:40 PM IST

Sarfaraz Ahmed: If you lose the toss in these conditions, and lose wickets, it’s hard to come back into the game. Have to play positive cricket here. Didn’t do well as a batting unit today. We know they’re going to come hard with their pace bowlers. We didn’t play well against the short ball. Today was a bad day.

  • 6:37 PM IST

Oshane Thomas: Andre Russell led the way with the ball, he was very aggressive and basically set it up for us with the aggressive bouncer, we executed our plans well. Anywhere I get to bowl I’m happy to run in and bowl, want to keep winning games for West Indies. I just want to keep working hard and doing my things.

  • 6:28 PM IST

  • 4:41 PM IST

OUT! Nine down! Oshane Thomas bowls a brute of a bouncer and Hafeez clearly has no answer to it. Just half pulls it and the fine-leg fieldsman takes the catch. This is brilliant stuff from West Indies.

  • 4:36 PM IST

Cricket World Cup 2019 live cricket score WI vs PAK: Pakistan 81/8. STOP THEM IF YOU CAN! West Indies pacers are in a hurry to get this done in 20 overs, it seems. Pakistan eight down as Jason Holder gets his third wicket. Hasan Ali departs.

  • 4:04 PM IST

WICKET! First wicket for Oshane Thomas as Shai Hope takes a fine catch, flying towards his right. Pakistan have lost Babar Azam and are reduced to 62/4. That Hetmyer drop has not cost West Indies much.

  • 3:47 PM IST
OUT! Andre Russell is on a roll here. Second wicket for him in this match. There’s pace and bounce for him and he is troubling Pakistan. Haris Sohail departs for 8 as Pakistan lose their third wicket.
  • 3:32 PM IST

OUT! Andre Russell strikes in his first over. The bouncer has done the trick for West indies as Fakhar Zaman fails to connect as well as he would have liked and drags one back onto the stumps. Pakistan two down.

  • 3:27 PM IST

PAK 33/1 after 5 overs: While Imam has departed early, Fakhar Zaman has kept the scoreboard ticking. Babar Azam too has shown an early intent as Pakistan have moved past 30-run mark after the five overs.

  • 3:02 PM IST

Fast bowler Mohammad Amir is set to make his World Cup debut. Amir missed the 2011 and 2015 tournaments due to a spot-fixing ban and was also sidelined in the last four matches of the recent one-day international series against England due to chicken pox.

  • 2:40 PM IST

Sarfaraz Ahmed: We wanted to field first because of the moisture on the wicket and overcast conditions. I doesn’t matter, if we survive first few overs then it will be a good pitch. Our batters are in good form. We announced our twelve yesterday so out of that Asif Ali is not playing. We have experience in our bowling line-up and I have confidence in my bowlers.

  • 2:40 PM IST
Jason Holder: We will field first. I don’t think conditions are going to change much. Hopefully, we will get some movement and we will get some early wickets. We had a good camp and two decent warm-up matches. Evin Lewis is not fit and Shannon Gabriel is also not fit. We’ve left out Allen and Roach. I thing we are getting better and better each time we are going out in the field.

West Indies vs Pakistan, Match 2 Highlights: Pacers, Gayle power West Indies to a thumping win over Pakistan

Live cricket score, West Indies vs Pakistan

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Match 2 of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between West Indies  and Pakistan at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Friday.

If a cursory glance across their recent record is anything to go by, there is absolutely nothing differentiating Pakistan and West Indies, two sides who have been the carriers of the “unpredictable” tag for way too long. For starters, Pakistan are coming into the World Cup with probably the worst record by any team. They have faced defeats in their last ten ODIs.

On the other hand, of their last five games, West Indies have won two and lost three, including the final of the tri-series to Bangladesh. Pakistan then became the first side to score three 300-plus totals, all in losing causes, while West Indies have put scores of 389, 381, 360 and 331 in their last ten ODIs. Whom do you pick? Perhaps the warm-ups. Pakistan were shaken up by a defeat to Afghanistan while West Indies hammered 421 runs against a side like New Zealand, whose quicks have troubled the best. Even then, we wouldn’t pick an outright fest.
