When a 50-year old Dennis Lillee, along with his son Adam demolished Pakistan batting line-up

In his heydays, Dennis Lillee possessed the capability to destroy the best of batting line-ups. But how many of them would still threaten even 15 years after their retirement?

There are others, but then there is one Lillee. In October 1999, in what was the last cricket match he played, the Australian legend turned out for the ACB Chairman’s XI against the visiting Pakistan side.

Those long flowing hair gave way to a bald look, the speed was slower but the threat posed was same. Aged 50 then, Lillee played alongside his son Adam, who too was a budding pacer at that time. In a 50 over match, Lillee bowled eight overs and picked up the wickets of Pakistani opener Ghulam Ali, all-rounder Abdul Razzaq and Shoaib Akhtar.

Adam too, went on to pick three wickets but was more expensive than his father. His figures read 6-0-29-3. The senior Lillee’s figures read 8-4-8-3. Not bad for a 50 year old, bowling to an international cricket side, who played the World Cup final earlier that year!

In this video, we see a rare moment when Adam takes a brilliant one handed catch in the fine-leg position, off his father’s bowling. We see the father-son pair bowling in tandem and later Lillee is seen signing autographs at the boundary line.

Thanks to the Lillees, ACB Chairman’s XI bowled out Pakistan for 168 and won the match by seven wickets in the 24th over.
