Who is Dewald Brevis? CSK roped in South African cricketer as a replacement player for THIS amount

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have made a new signing, as they have announced Dewald Brevis being added with them in order to replace an injured Gurjapneet Singh. Brevis used to be a part of Mumbai Indians (MI), where he played 10 matches, but will now support the Yellow army.

Chennai Super Kings are currently at the bottom of the points table, as they have won only one of their seven matches in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). CSK lineup has lacked the power and aggression in their batting lineup in this season so far, but the situation might improve with the addition of Brevis.

Dewald Brevis is also known as ‘Baby AB’ as his striking resembles the batting style of legendary AB de Villiers. He has made a name for himself after playing lot of T20 leagues around the world. The IPL stated in a statement that CSK have signed in the South African batter for INR 2.2 crore.

“Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South Africa’s Dewald Brevis as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Dewald Brevis has played 81 T20s and scored 1787 runs with a highest score of 162. He made his T20I Debut for South Africa in 2023 and has played 2 T20Is so far. Brevis was previously part of Mumbai Indians (MI), where he played 10 matches. He will join CSK for INR 2.2 Crore,” the IPL said in an official statement.

Dewald Brevis has played a total of 81 T20 matches, and has scored 1787 runs. His highest score was of 162 runs. The T20 international debut for Brevis for South Africa was in 2023, and he has played 2 T20I matches till now.
