With or without gloves, Sangakkara is a class act!
Kumar Sangakkara has been one of the best wicketkeeper-batsmen the game has seen. Even without the gloves on, he is an asset on the field.
During the second Test in the ongoing Pakistan and Sri Lanka Test series, Sangakkara cupped a fantastic running catch while fielding at mid-on and stunned everyone with his effort. In the first innings, Pakistan were nine men down for 138. On the fifth delivery of the 43rd over from Tharindu Kaushal, Yasir Shah in an attempt to collect some priceless runs mistimed one tossed up doosra. Off the bat’s outside edge, the ball took the aerial route and seemed to die down in a no man’s land. Sangakkara charged in and had to run backwards and then dive. He did so and pouched a beauty. Even in the twilight of his career, Sangakkara showed what he means to the side and the catch is a testimony to his fitness. He maintained his balance and didn’t let the ball slip out of his hands as he landed on the ground.
Eventually, Sri Lanka won the Test by seven wickets and managed to level the Test series by 1-1. The third and final Test will be played onJuly 3, 2015.
