Many former Pakistan cricketers like Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar and Waqar Younis criticized the current side for their disappointing performances in the Champions Trophy where they ended up losing both of their opening 2 matches against New Zealand and India respectively.

These 2 losses saw them crash out of the tournament which triggered a wave of criticism from fans and former cricketers alike. Akram questioned the state of Pakistan cricket and asked for a revamp of the ODI team.

“I think it was the first or second drinks break, and there was a plate full of bananas for the players. Itne kele toh bandar bhi nahi khaate (Even monkeys don’t eat so many bananas). And it’s their food. Had it been our captain Imran Khan, he would have given me a beating over it,” Akram said on a post-match show.

On the other hand, former India cricketer Yograj Singh slammed Akram for mocking players of his own country and offered to coach Pakistan, claiming that he will completely rebuild the team in a year.

“Wasim is earning money doing commentary. Go back to your country, organise a camp of these players. I want to see which one of you can help Pakistan win the World Cup and if not then resign. Mein jata hoon, ek saal mein team khadi kar kay dikhaunga tum yaad rakhoge (I can coach them. I will build this team in one year and you’ll will remember it),” Yograj told News18.

“It’s all about passion. I am spending 12 hours here (at his own academy). You will have to give your blood and sweat for your own country,” Yograj added.
