Sri Lanka Women fell for Australia Women’s spin and were restricted to 123 for 8 in Match N0.13 of Women’s T20 World Cup 2016. Receiving an early breakthrough, Sri Lanka made a decent comeback with Chamari Atapattu’s 32-ball 38, sticking through until 14th over. While, Dilani Manodra also contributed her bit of 38 from 35 leading Sri Lanka to 80 by 10th over. After the captain made her way through the exit door, Sri Lanka started crumbling with consecutive wickets falling and the runs restricted at every over. Once again the spinners played the trick for Australia with Megan Schutt and Kristen Beam picking two apiece. The run rate was affected which was soaring to 9 per over and dropping to 5 per over. Sri Lanka were in control of the game since the beginning after Yasoda Mendis fell through for a duck. But Dilani Manodara carried the momentum ahead and gave the required impetus for Sri Lanka scoring 35-ball 38 with 5 fours. Dilani and skipper Chamari Atapattu secured highest 2nd wicket partnership of 75-runs. This has been recorded as highest 2nd wicket partnership ahead of 3 rd wicket partnership between Yasoda Mendis and Shashikala Siriwardene of 51-runs against South Africa Women in 2013. Considering Sri Lanka needs to win this match to secure their spot in the tournament, they need to win this match and are currently at No. 4 and Australia lie at No.3 in Group A.

Group A consists of Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Ireland. Ireland have already been ousted from the tournament after being defeated by South Africa on Wednesday. While New Zealand claims the top spot and proceeding to semi-final winning all three matches. South Africa, Australia and Sri Lanka are sailing on the same level and need just one game to win and move to semi-final from this group.
