New Zealand came out on top after a comfortable win against Ireland by 93 runs in the Women’s World T20 2016 .The Kiwis set a huge target of 178 runs against Ireland at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali after winning the toss and deciding to bat first. Suzie Bates and Rachel Priest opened the Innings for the Kiwis. After a flying start of 14/0 in the first over Priest was out, caught by Shillington off Keanely. S Devine came to the crease and along with Bates set up an important 104-run stand between them and took New Zealand’s score past the 120-run mark. The duo didn’t let any bowler settle while they were on the crease. FULL MATCH SCORECARD:Ireland Women vs New Zealand Women, 5th T20 Match, Group A, ICC Womens T20 World Cup 2016

Both Bates and Devine rotated strike as well as scored boundaries as per will against the Irish bowlers. Among the Ireland bowlers, O’ Reilly was up to the mark but couldn’t get wickets and Captain Isobel Joyce proved to be expensive early on but go the wicket of Devine after the latter missed out on what could have been a well-made half-century. Bates though was at her attacking best, while she was joined by Sara Mcglashan at the wicket. Bates got out after smashing 82 runs off 60 balls and Amy Satterthwaite finished the New Zealand innings along with Mcglashan taking the Kiwis to a score of 177/3 in their 20 overs. Garth, Kenealy and Joyce picked up a wicket each for Ireland.

In their reply Ireland could not pose any sort of threat to the New Zealand total as the Kiwi pace bowlers were just too good for the Irish batsmen. Morna Nielsen was outstanding with figures of 1-13 in her four overs.Leigh Kasperek and Erin Bermingham were excellent too. Devine also contributed for figures of 1-19. All in all, Ireland were never in the chase and Isobel Joyce was the highest run-getter with 28 runs off 33 balls for the Ireland side.

Ireland will now play Sri Lanka next whereas New Zealand will be up against three-time Women’s WT20 Champions Australia.
