India batting legend Gautam Gambhir isn’t seem to be happy with the ‘obsession’ with MS Dhoni‘s six that sealed their 2011 ODI World Cup title win against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

On April 2, 2011, India won their second ever ODI world cup title becoming the first team do so on home soil.

A leading cricket website posted a reminder of that moment on their Twitter handle on the ninth anniversary of that victory which irked Gambhir.

“Just a reminder @ESPNcricinfo: #worldcup2011 was won by entire India, entire Indian team & all support staff. High time you hit your obsession for a SIX,” Gambhir wrote quoting the Tweet.

Gambhir was India’s top-scorer in the final, hitting 97 before being dismissed in a tricky chase of 275.

Batting first, a century from Mahela Jayawardene pushed Sri Lanka to a challenging total.

In reply, India had lost both their openers Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar by seventh over. Gambhir walked in at No. 3 and stabilised the chase, stitching vital partnerships with Virat Kohli and captain Dhoni.

With Kohli, who scored 35, he firsr led the recovery from those early jolts with an 83-run stand for the third wicket.

Then with captain Dhoni, he put India on course, with a century stand.

He missed out on his century by three runs with Dhoni finishing unbeaten on 91 and hit that winning six to seal the cup,

In fact, Gambhir also played an important role with the bat at the World T20 2008 when India became the inaugural champions. In the final against Pakistan, he top-scored with 75, propelling them to 157 which turned out to be enough.
