World cup-winning former Sri Lankan player with More than 900 wickets accused of Match-fixing

The former Sri Lankan cricketer has played 1 Test, 49 ODIs and 24 T20 matches for the country, but has been accused of match fixing.

The Hambantona High court has found Sri Lanka’s former off-spinner Sachithra Senanayake guilty for luring a fellow player for match-fixing during the Lanka Premier League (LPL). The Attorney General’s Department said that this is the first time a national level player has been found guilty of match fixing under the recently introduced anti-corruption law in the country. He was arrested in 2023 and released on bail.

40-year-old Senanayake has played 1 Test, 49 ODIs and 24 T20 matches for Sri Lanka between 2012 and 2016, taking 78 wickets.

Trarindu Ratnayake was given the offer:
According to local media reports, Sachithra Senanayake had offered fixing to Tharindu Ratnayake, who is playing for Colombo Kings in the Lanka Premier League.

More than 900 wickets in 1st-class cricket, member of T20 World cup-winning team:
Sachithra Senanayake has taken 567 wickets in 112 matches in first class cricket. He has 283 wickets in 186 List A cricket matches. Apart from this, he has taken 124 wickets in 108 T-20 matches. He has a total of 974 wickets to his name. Sachithra Senanayake was part of the Sri Lankan team that won the T20 World Cup title in 2014. Sri Lanka won the title by defeating India.
