Yashasvi Jaiswal etched his name into the record books on Day 3 of the second Test against South Africa, becoming the first Indian batter to score a Test half-century at the ACA stadium in Barsapara, as the venue hosted its maiden Test match.

Walking out with determination after India resumed their massive chase, Jaiswal showed remarkable patience and discipline against the South African pace duo of Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder. The left-hander weathered the early movement before gradually shifting gears, mixing solid defence with elegant stroke play. His fifty came at a crucial moment for India, who are fighting to stay alive in the match after South African posted a commanding 489 in the first innings.

A Historic Fifty at a Guwahati Venue

With this knock, Jaiswal became the first Indian to register a Test fifty in Guwahati, marking a new chapter in the city’s cricketing history. Barsapara stadium, which has previously hosted T20Is and ODIs, is staging its first Test, making Jaiswal’s mileston even more special.

The young opener looked confident during his stay at the crease, rotating the strike well, and punishing loose deliveries. His partnership with KL Rahul provided India with a steady start in what is expected to be a long and challenging battle against South Africa’s disciplined bowling attack.

India Still Facing a Huge Ask

Despite Jaiswal’s heroics, India still have a mountain to climb. They entered Day 3 trailing by over 480 runs and will require partnerships throughout the day to remain competitive.

South Africa, powered by Senuran Muthusamy’s maiden Test century (109) and Marco Jansen’s brilliant 93, have put India under significant pressure. The pitch has begun to assist the spinners slightly, making the job tougher for the Indian batters.

A Landmark Moment for Indian Cricket in the Northeast

Jaiswal’s fifty will be remembered not just as a personal milestone but as a historic moment for the entire region. As Assam hosts its first Test match, the left-hander’s knock stands as the first major batting landmark at the ground.
