Yasir Shah’s 5-for gives Pakistan advantage as England end Day 2 at 253-7 in 1st Test at Lord’s

Yasir Shah picks up five wickets as England end Day Two of the first Test against Pakistan at 253 for 7. Yasir became the first leg spinner to pick up a fifer in 20 years. The last to do so was Mushtaq Ahmed in 1996. Alastair Cook was England’s top-scorer with 81 before Mohammad Aamer bowled him. This was Aamer’s first wicket in Tests since his return to international cricket after a span of six years. Joe Root too played well, but played a rash shot to give Yasir his first wicket of the day. Yasir removed Root, James Vince and Gary Balance in quick succession to reduce England to 153 for 4 at tea.  After Cook was dismissed, the likes of Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali too departed. Moeen was especially looking in good nick, before he was trapped in front by Yasir. Earlier, Pakistan were bowled out for 339 after a superb 114 from skipper Misbah-ul-Haq. Chris Woakes was the star for England as he finished with figures of 6 for 70. Asad Shafiq made a crucial 73 on Day One and his 148-run stand with Misbah for the fourth wicket really tilted the match in Pakistan’s favour initially. Syuart Broad and Jake Ball finished with three and one wicket respectively. Pakistan have the upper hand in the match at the moment and will be looking to bowl England out early when play resumes on Day Three.
