Yorkshire who won the County Championship were presented with the trophy by the Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, of the British royal family. The county side were presented with the trophy and the winners’ medals by the 93-year-old prince.

The Yorkshire Post quoted Dickie Bird,  the Yorkshire County Club president and former umpire as saying  “ it’s the icing on the cake of our season.” The fact that a member of the Royal family awarded the trophy to his side filled Bird with glee.  “As soon as you see the gates outside Buckingham Palace, you feel the magnificent aura of the place and the Duke was great to talk to,” said the former umpire.

Jason Gillespie too praised the side for what had been an excellent season. “ It was a wonderful experience. The lads have been fantastic all season, and it’s reward for all their efforts,” he said, according to Yorkshire Post.
