Yuvraj Singh smashed his 74th List A career from a mere 40 deliveries against England in the ongoing warm-up match between India A and England, before falling for a 48-ball 56. Yuvraj s selection for the ODI and T20I squads against England raised certain apprehensions as he had not played a fifty-over game in 2016. But from the moment he stepped out to bat, Yuvraj looked in elegant touch and played cracking strokes all over the park, reminding the jam-packed Brabourne stadium of his vintage days. By the time he got to his fifty, Yuvraj had already hit 6 fours and 2 huge sixes, both off Adil Rashid. Yuvraj eventually fell trying to pull Jake Ball, only to top-edge the ball to Rashid at fine-leg.

With a lot of uncertainty over the finisher’s role in the Indian middle-order, the selectors invested in Yuvraj after a fruitful 2016-17 Ranji Trophy season, where he topped the batting charts for his side with 672 runs despite playing just 5 games. This game also saw Ambati Rayudu scoring 100 off 97 deliveries consisting of 11 fours and a six, eventually retiring to make way for Dhoni to bat for the last time as the captain in the Indian jersey. There is typically limited response for India warm-up matches irrespective of the opposition, but this match has seen jam-packed crowd coming to witness the batting of Dhoni.
