Zaheer Khan elected as MCC Honorary Life Member

Ex-Indian paceman Zaheer Khan has become an honorary life member of the MCC after being elected by the club. Zaheer had spent the entire 2006 campaign at New Road and eventually finished with haul of 78 County Championship wickets including five in an innings on five occasions. It was this success with Worcestershire that earned Zaheer his recall with Indian squad. The 37-year-old was a spearhead of pace attack in India’s One Day International side. He made his debut in 2000, wherein Khan took 282 wickets in 200 ODIs at an average of 29.34 and 311 wickets in 92 Tests at an average of 32.94. John Stephenson, MCC Head of Cricket, said: “Zaheer Khan was a fantastic servant to cricket in India and an integral part of their very successful side for many years. For this reason the Club is very pleased to award him with Honorary Life Membership. Having retired from international and first class cricket in 2015, Khan still is highly sought players as he continues to play for Indian Premier League franchise. He has done stints with various franchises in IPL which include the likes of Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Khan has become the second former India international player to be elected in recent weeks following Virender Sehwag, who became an Honorary Life Member in early in the month of August.
